Candice In London

More purchases.

Yesterday we explored Greenwich and found this awesome little antique market and junk shop - literally called “Junk Shop.” Immediately, I spotted the Queen’s Coronation souvenir tin, ran up to the table and asked how much. He responded, “Three Pounds.” I asked, “That’s ALL?” Done.

Later I found my tea cups, which I absolutely could not resist. Tonight, I’ll watch Downton Abbey and sip authentic British tea out of my antique tea cups. Life’s great.

Additionally, I spent some time standing on the Prime Meridian. No big deal. I must say, SMH pulled some serious strings to get us into the view area for free - fo free. Shady business… Anyway, it was seriously cool on his part because I got this great picture of myself in two hemispheres at once.

Basically, Greenwich was a ridiculous success until we tried to leave. Once you come to this town, you can never leave. Tube stations were closed down, hidden in alleyways, lines weren’t running. It. Was. Awful. Thank goodness I found SMH and his wife who somehow got us home after another hour. Hanifi to the rescue once again.

Souvenirs from today! Needless to say I couldn’t be more pleased with myself.

First shot glass that I’ve ever bought - Win.

The Mug was only 2.99!

And I’ve got myself a mini key chain of the Crown Jewels, which I saw today at the Tower of London. They. Were. Stunning. I didn’t think I’d be so in awe, but they are incredible. I purchased the keychain at Westminster Abbey, which was equally as stunning. It’s an odd feeling being in a place with so much history.

All in all - successful day :)

Here On the Street Where You Live

Bedford Place.

Last night, the group attended a basic ‘How-Not-To-Be-Taken’ or ‘What-To-Do-If-You’re-About-To-Be-Taken’ seminar given by a London Police officer. He was utterly fabulous, like most Londoners are, however, his advice definitely put the group on edge.

Suddenly last night, at two o’ clock in the morning as most of us were comfortably sleeping, the Madison House’s ear shattering alarm began to sound. Disgruntled and livid, we woke up and evacuated the building wondering what in the world was going on. Security came and informed us that the alarm for the basement that read “broken glass” had been triggered. Lovely.

We still don’t know if it was just an accident or if all of Bedford place was about to be Taken last night. Maybe this ‘taken’ joke is getting out hand… haha.

Revelation: I’m seriously terrible about blogging. Everything is great so far - aside from the weather, which is definitely on the damp side. I’m not over everyone speaking in British Accents 24/7 (which Brits think is a stupid saying according to my East End tour guide). Anyway, it’s like being in heaven. Sometimes it’s shocking that we’re living here and I feel so lucky to have the world at my fingertips. But most of the time it feels natural and I decidedly love it. Unfortunately, we’ve determined that it takes about 10 years of living in this lovely country to develop a British Accent because my Culture By Design Professor, Dr. Hicks, (who is from VA) has lived here for 10 years and only has a slight accent on certain words. Disappointing. Haha.

This photograph is from one of the first nights we were here. This was taken on a scavenger-like walk that our program director, Rusty, and our faculty member in residence, SMH, sent us on before we were supposed to ‘meet’ them in Trafalgar Square. Or so we thought. Apparently they were at the National Theatre. They lost us on our first night there.

More to come. Cheerio.
